Summer in 2020

Well, the world is still burning.

Somehow, since the end of March when quarantine began, I've managed to write a 72,000 word novel and release two books. I dunno, don't ask me - I'm barely functional most days. At least after wasting most of my time on TikTok for a month, I'm back to writing now.

The latest book is called OUR CARRION HEARTS. Pete over at Bloodshot Books came up with the great tagline "Which side will you be on- Wendigo or Witch?" It's a supernatural splatterpunk novel that involves themes of sexual identity, abuse cycles, and mental illness. Also, ya know, monsters. Here's the synopsis...

MONSTERS EXIST Vampires, Witches, Faeries, Djinn, and Wendigo. These five tribes have held an uneasy truce for centuries, united for their mutual benefit as the Carrion Court. But now the collapse has begun. Daniel Hale has been summoned back to his hometown to investigate the disappearance of another Wendigo. Rumors are circulating that his kind are going feral, hearing voices in their primal form. To make things more complicated, a young psychic woman seems somehow involved. Meanwhile, Kelsey Radu and her family are acquiring an impressive body count. The teenage Witch has a plan, one audacious and brutal. It doesn’t matter how many die out back in the shack, she will not be stopped until the ritual is finally complete. Daniel and Kelsey are on a collision course that could determine the fate of the world. Wendigo versus Witch. Neither of them are heroes.

I was so deep in writing, I missed posting about the book that came out a few months back. HUNGRY RAIN is a creature-feature novella from Severed Press that's simply your basic blood-fueled fun time.

Woodlands was the perfect summer getaway. A rustic Ohio resort, it had everything from campgrounds and hiking trails to mini-golf and zip lines. You could enjoy swimming, fishing, and boating in its two famous lakes. What rose from those lakes one stormy night ended Woodlands. Abominations had come with the rain. Ready to devour anything, nightmare creatures from the depths. It would only take one night. One terrifying night for the monsters from the hungry rain to be fed.

What's next?

The sequel to BLEED AWAY THE SKY is in the hands of Pete over at Bloodshot Books, and that 72k novel is with my editor Jon. It's a weird blend of the slasher genre and cosmic horror. I've had a few stuttered starts on a next project, but I think I've hammered out what I'm working on now.

The 7Q Interview is on indefinite hiatus. Too many authors would never get back to me, and it really wasn't getting a lot of attention unless a big name author got the spotlight - which was never the point. And honestly, the horror community is full of drama and chaos right now.

I'm still on social media, mostly to promote the books. I was on TikTok a lot there for a while, but I'm growing tired of it too, I think. Ultimately, I just want to tell stories that interest me that I hope others will enjoy. Maybe check one out.
